Maine is one of the largest producers of timber in the United States. Our family has been involved in the lumber industry for over 50 years. We have owned over 15,000 acres of timberland. When my mom died last fall and made me the executor of the estate I had to decide on what to do with our forestry properties. With the help of a Maine probate attorney we decided to sell our acres and diversify our family assets. We also had to pay over $3million dollars in estate taxes. We received over $15 million for the timberland and now we are buying real estate in Hawaii.
