Almost four in 10 of us will laugh when told a bad joke, while less than one in 100 will grunt. So, it really pays to tell jokes, however crappy they are. Because adequate number of public will laugh at them anyway just to follow others. According to some research people laugh partly out of politeness, partly because they can’t quite think how bad a bad joke can be, which leads to a kind of half-embarrassed laughter and partly because we all are like cattle who respond to things in ways we imagine we are suppose to react to them. We just recognize the patterns that notify us that a joke is in the progression of being enlightened; we know that jokes are supposed to be funny and that we are expected to show our admiration with laughter, never minding how lousy they are.
