Alma is a small town located in Arkansas that is famous for being the Spinach Capital of the World. The town is home to several things that make it so, including the Allen Canning Company, which cans Popeye’s Spinach. The town also has the World’s Largest Spinach Can in the form of a water tower painted green and sporting a picture of Popeye. In fact, all of the water towers situated near Lake Alma are painted green. The residents really seem to love Popeye, because there are also two statues of the sailor in the town. The town center has a Popeye Park where you can find the first statue, made of bronze and standing on top of a beautiful water fountain. You can also find the first Popeye statue that the town once had at the center of town; it is now located in Kustom Kaps, where the widow of the statue’s creator runs her store. The store is a treasure trove of items related to Popeye and Alma. You will certainly be able to find a couple of nice souvenirs here. You might also want to visit the Alma Performing Arts Center and catch one of their shows.
