There are as many different number plates systems as there are countries. There are not many countries that use the same system although they can look similar. Some have letter of numbers which signify the area of the country while others have not. Some have digits which give away the age of the vehicle while others have none. All seem to use a combination of letters and numbers although the Channel Isles sometimes just have numbers. Some are six digit combinations while countries with more digits need the full 7 digits which seems to be the maximum you can squeeze onto a plate.
